The Sambhaavnaa Institute of Public Policy and Politics invites you to the winter school of its Nayi Dishayein series .

The aim is to engage young minds, who are inclined towards the social sector, in developing a holistic understanding of contemporary socio-economic-political issues.

The key focus of this 10 day workshop is to examine critically the current notion of ‘Development’ that pervades society and public policy. The issue is more vexed in a society like India which had pre-existing fault-lines of caste, class, gender and religion. While one aspect of the workshop is to understand the origins and genesis of the current crisis (of poverty, unemployment, inequality, growth without well-being, rising communalism, the women’s question, the adivasi and dalit question, an increasingly dissent suppressing democracy, and environmental degradation), we would also try and see hope via spending time on the various fledgling alternatives to ‘development’ – both at the grassroots and policy level – that are being experimented with in different parts of India and the world.

Program Methodology:

We deploy interactive lecture sessions, group work and group discussions, film screenings , collective reflection, and most importantly , live experience sharing by activists, in our attempt to re-examin e and deepen our understanding of pertinent issues.
