मीडिया लोकतंत्र में चौथा स्तम्भ कहा जाता है. लोकत्रंत्र को सजग और पारदर्शी बनाए रखने में मीडिया की महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रही है. मीडिया की ताकत जानते हुए ही देश के सत्ताधारी – चाहे वो कम्पनियां हों या राजनैतिक व्यवस्था – इस पर अपना कब्ज़ा जमाये रखने में पूरा जोर लगाते हैं. मीडिया लोकतंत्र का चौथा स्तम्भ होने के बावजूद भी सीधे रूप से आम जनता की भागीदारी नहीं होती और इसी कारण से कारण मीडिया पर पूंजीपति वर्ग का कब्ज़ा है.

आज तकनीक की सुगमता और सोशल मीडिया के आने से आम लोगो को आपनी आवाज़ या सोच रखने का स्थान मिला है. वैसे तो मोबाईल फोन और सोशल मीडिया जैसी टेक्नोलॉजी के कई नुक्सान गिनाना मुश्किल नहीं – परन्तु सच तो ये है कि आज शहर हो या गाँव – युवाओं के हाथों में स्मार्ट फोन है और हर स्मार्ट फोन में इंटरनेट कनेक्शन है. अधिकतर लोग इस माध्यम से जानकारी लेने में जुटे हैं – और जिनके पास सत्ता है वो इस माध्यम के सहारे भी कभी आधी  अधूरी तो कभी झूठी खबरें जनता के बीच में फैला रहे हैं.

बड़ा इलेक्ट्रॉनिक मीडिया तो कमानियों के कब्ज़े में है ही पर यह साधारण सा सोसियल मीडिया भी बाज़ार अपने मुनाफे के लिए इस्तमाल करता है. फर्क सिर्फ इतना है कि एक सोचने समझने वाले आम इंसान के लिए मोबाईल फोन और सोशल मीडिया का इस्तमाल कोई मुश्किल बात नहीं – तो क्यों न हम इसके ज़रिये अपने आस पास के समुदाय के मुद्दे उठाएं – क्यों न इस नए मीडिया का इस्तमाल हमारे रोज़मर्रा के संघर्षों को ताकत देने के लिए इस्तमाल करें – क्यों न हम सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता बनाएं खुद का मीडिया … हमारा मीडिया?

कार्यशाला के बारे में

वीडियो वालंटियर्स सामुदायिक मीडिया के क्षेत्र में काम करने वाली एक गैर सरकारी संगठन है. सामुदायिक मीडिया का पूरा नेटवर्क पुरे भारत में फैला है और लगभग २०० से ज्यादा सामुदायिक संवादाता आपने अपने समुदाय से जमीनी कहानी खोज कर दुनिया के सामने लाते  है जिस पर किसी मीडिया की नजर नहीं पहुची. इस कार्यशाला में हम मोजो पर काम करेंगे –मोजो या मोबाईल जर्नालिस्म एक प्रकार की पत्रकारिता है जिसमे आम नागरिक अपने आस पास की समस्याओं को उजागर करने के लिए मोबाईल फोन का इस्तमाल करते हैं. इसका प्रयोग कैसे करें – फोटोग्राफी , वीडियो और वीडियो एडिटिंग का प्रशिक्षण भी इस कार्यशाला में दिया जाएगा. सोशल मीडिया में हम फेक न्यूज़ कैसे पहचाने इस मुद्दे के उपर भी चर्चा होगी.

कार्यशाला में चर्चा के मुख्य बिन्दु:

• मोजो क्या है और यह किस प्रकार से सिटीजन्स जर्नालिस्म के काम आता है?
• मोबाइल के द्वारा फोटोग्राफी , वीडियो और वीडियो एडिटिंग
• सोशल मीडिया का सकारात्मक उपयोग
• न्यूज़ की पहचान और फेक न्यूज़ की जाँच

यह कार्यशाला किसके लिए है

यह कार्यशाला सभी नागरिको के लिए उपयोगी है, खास कर सामाजिक क्षत्रो में काम करने वाले युवा साथी, जन संगठनों के साथ जुड़े लोग, विद्यार्थी आदि. (कार्यशाला में भाग लेने वाले साथी कैमरा वाला एंड्राइड फोन साथ में जरूर ले आयें).

सहजकर्ता: राजकुमार वीडियो वालंटियर्स में एक वीडियो ट्रेनर है, वह अभ्यास पत्रकारिता के माध्यम से विकास पत्रकारिता में एक दशक से अधिक अनुभव रखते है। उन्होने एम.फिल अनुसंधान के दौरान अखिल भारतीय रेडियो पर नव उदार आर्थिक नीतियों के प्रभाव को देखा है। राज को प्रिंट, टेलीविजन और रेडियो में अनुभव है और उन्होंने कविताओं और नाटकों को निर्देशित किया है, उन्होने नेशनल स्कूल ऑफ ड्रामा की कार्यशालाओं में भी भाग लिया है।

Background

Media is considered the fourth pillar in a democracy with the key objective of ensuring transparency and accountability through public awareness. The fact that media is a powerful tool is made obvious by the fact that every government and corporation is focused on reigning control over the mainstream media. And so despite it being termed as a ‘pillar of democracy’, there is no direct involvement of the masses in using, accessing and benefiting from the media. Big media is nothing but a business used by the capitalist class and the elite for profit motive.

New digital technology and the arrival of social media in today’s times has opened up a myriad opportunities for the common people by providing a platform to raise their voice. While digital technologies have their own politics and issues of control as well as several adverse impacts too, there is still a window, actually, an ever growing scope for Citizen’s Journalism through new media. In a day and age when the government and private companies are using the new media to their advantage it has become imperative that socially conscious and active citizens assert their access and use of the new media to raise real issues that impact every day lives of the marginalised people.

Mobile Journalism is a form of citizen’s journalism is based on the concept of ‘of the public, by the public, and for the public’. It is increased public participation in the new media that will make this a stronger tool of information dissemination and thus making active our democracy.

About the workshop

Video Volunteers is a non-governmental organization working in the field of community media. The entire network of its community media initiative is spread across India with more than 200 community correspondents bringing out stories in their areas, from their community, to the world, which has not been noticed by any media.

In this workshop we would learn the about how to use MOJO or Mobile Journalism as a tool for citizen’s journalism. How it works? What are the effects? Photography, video and video editing will also be done in this workshop.

We will also discuss about how to recognize and beat fake news.

Themes of the workshop

• What is MoJo and how is it effective as a form of citizen’s journalism
• Photography, video and video editing, by mobile phones
• Positive use of social media
• Identification of News and Checking of Fake News

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is useful for all citizen’s, especially people working in social field or with small media groups, youth associated with social movements, campaigns and organisations as well as students. Those who want to be citizen’s journalists in order to highlight and address the every day issues faced by the masses. (Participants are requested to bring an android phone with camera to the workshop)

Facilitator: Rajkumar is a video trainer at Video Volunteers, he comes with over a decade of experience in development journalism both through practice and academics. His M.Phil research looked at the impact of neo-liberal economic policies on All India Radio. Raj has experience in print, television and radio and has also scripted poems, directed plays and participated in workshops at the National School of Drama.

Participants Contribution:

Participants could contribute an amount of Rs 3000/- for the workshop. However, those who have difficulty in making the full contribution could make a partial one.
