A NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON LAND, FOREST, LABOUR & ANTI-CASTE JUSTICE

Overview
Land and forests are being grabbed, workers are pushed into deeper precarity, and caste continues to determine who has access to rights, dignity and justice. In these times, lawyers must reclaim the law as a shield for people’s struggles. This workshop is more than juts a training—it is a political and social space to collectively reimagine law as an instrument for equality, dignity and justice—rooted in people’s struggles and in the promise of the Constitution.
Who is it for?
This workshop is designed for early-stage lawyers already involved in human rights work and final-year law students inclined towards human rights practice. It will help build both strong legal strategies and the social-political perspective needed to work alongside people’s movements.
What to Expect?
Over six days, participants will engage in intensive sessions, case studies and dialogues with senior lawyers, academics, and movement leaders exploring how law can be reclaimed in the service of struggles for land, labour, religious conversion rights of Dalits & Adivasis and anti-caste justice.
Facilitators: The workshop will be guided by some of India’s most respected lawyers and leading voices from movements: Prashant Bhushan Adv., Gayatri Singh Sr. Adv., Prof. Babu Mathew, Shalini Gera Adv., Asst. Prof. Sivamanithan, Shomona Khanna Adv., Tehmina Arora Adv., Nikhil Dey, Activist and others, bringing decades of experience from courts, classrooms and people’s struggles.
When & Where: December 26 – 31, 2025 at Sambhavanaa Institute of Public Policy and Politics, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. (This is a fully residential programme.)
Fees & Scholarships: The participation fee is ₹6,000, inclusive of food and accommodation, payable upon shortlisting. To ensure wider access, a limited number of full and partial scholarships are available on a first-come, rolling basis.

आज के समय में ज़मीन और जंगल छीने जा रहे हैं, मज़दूरों को और अधिक असुरक्षित हालातों में धकेला जा रहा है, और जाति व्यवस्था अब भी यह तय करती है कि किसे अधिकार, सम्मान और न्याय मिलेगा। ऐसे दौर में यह ज़रूरी है कि वकील क़ानून को लोगों के संघर्षों की रक्षा करने वाला एक मजबूत औज़ार बनाएं।
यह वर्कशॉप सिर्फ़ एक ट्रेनिंग कार्यक्रम नहीं है, यह एक राजनीतिक और सामाजिक मंच है, जहाँ हम मिलकर यह सोचते हैं कि क़ानून को कैसे बराबरी, सम्मान और न्याय के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है। यह प्रक्रिया लोगों के जमीनी संघर्षों और संविधान के वादों में गहराई से जुड़ी हुई है।
इस वर्कशॉप का उद्देश्य है, क़ानून को फिर से जनता के पक्ष में खड़ा करना, ताकि वह शोषण के ख़िलाफ़ एक ढाल बन सके, और हर व्यक्ति को उसका अधिकार, सम्मान और न्याय मिल सके।
यह वर्कशॉप किनके लिए है?
यह कार्यशाला उन वकीलों के लिए बनाई गई है जो पहले से ही मानवाधिकार से जुड़े काम कर रहे हैं, और उन अंतिम वर्ष के क़ानून के छात्रों के लिए जो मानवाधिकार के क्षेत्र में काम करना चाहते हैं। इससे उन्हें मज़बूत क़ानूनी रणनीतियाँ बनाने में मदद मिलेगी, साथ ही लोगों के आंदोलनों के साथ मिलकर काम करने के लिए ज़रूरी सामाजिक और राजनीतिक समझ भी विकसित होगी।
क्या उम्मीद करें?
इन छह दिनों की इस कार्यशाला में आप गहरे सत्रों, केस स्टडीज़ और बातचीत में हिस्सा लेंगे। इन सत्रों में सीनियर वकील, शिक्षक और जन आंदोलनों से जुड़े नेता शामिल होंगे। साथ मिलकर हम यह समझने की कोशिश करेंगे कि क़ानून को ज़मीन, मज़दूरी, दलित और आदिवासी समुदायों के धर्मांतरण के अधिकार और जातिविरोधी न्याय जैसे संघर्षों में लोगों की मदद के लिए कैसे इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है।
स्रोत व्यक्ति: यह कार्यशाला देश के कुछ जाने-माने वकीलों और जन आंदोलनों से जुड़े प्रमुख लोगों के मार्गदर्शन में होगी। इनमें शामिल हैं: प्रशांत भूषण (वकील), गायत्री सिंह (सीनियर वकील), प्रो. बाबू मैथ्यू, शालिनी गेरा (वकील), असिस्टेंट प्रोफेसर शिवमणिथन, शोमोना खन्ना (वकील), तहमिना अरोड़ा (वकील), निखिल डे (सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता), और अन्य लोग। ये सभी लोग अदालतों, शिक्षण संस्थानों, और जन आंदोलनों में कई दशकों का अनुभव लेकर आएंगे।
